Protective DNS for places of worship, run by small teams

Churches, mosques, synagogues, temples and gurdwaras run on small staff teams and volunteers, with an office laptop, a giving terminal, livestream cameras and a hall that hosts youth groups and food banks. Shield blocks phishing, malware and C2 callbacks at the DNS lookup, with no hardware and nothing to install on the network. Community WiFi stays family-safe for children's groups.

What is at stake

Where a place of worship is exposed

  • Treasurers and administrators

Volunteers handle donations, Gift Aid records and supplier payments by email. Fake invoices and login pages are aimed straight at them.
  • Livestream kit left running

Cameras, encoders and the streaming laptop stay connected all week, often set up once by a volunteer and never updated.
  • Children in the hall

Youth groups, toddler sessions and holiday clubs use the community WiFi. It has to be safe for them.

How Shield fits

Office, livestream, hall and community, kept apart

  • Office and treasurerThreat defense on the office laptop and volunteer devices, with new domains blocked to stop fresh phishing sites.
  • Livestream and AVCameras, encoders and projection limited to streaming and update domains, so a service always goes out.
  • Giving and card readersThreat-first policy on donation terminals and card readers, separate from the community WiFi.
  • Community WiFiFamily-safe categories and Safe Search for youth groups, with rules that change by time of day.

FAQ

Questions we hear from teams like yours

We have no IT person. Can volunteers set it up?

Yes. Point your router at Shield, with no hardware to buy, and choose a ready-made policy for each network. A scheduled PDF report can go to the administrator or a trustee each month, so someone sees what was blocked.

Will it interrupt our livestream?

No. Allow the streaming platform and the update domains your encoder needs, and Shield answers each lookup before the connection starts. Ad and tracker blocking on the community WiFi leaves more of the line free for the stream.

Can we change the rules for youth groups?

Yes. Set policy by time of day and day of week, per network or SSID. Tighten categories and enforce Safe Search on Google, Bing and YouTube for youth club evenings, then relax them for adult study groups.

Can people get round it with a VPN?

Shield blocks VPN and proxy apps with one click, so the community WiFi stays inside the policy you set. Nothing needs installing on visitors' phones for filtering to apply.

What happens if Shield goes down during a service?

Shield runs on a dual anycast DNS network and fails closed, so an outage never leaves your networks unfiltered. Nobody needs to come in and switch anything back on.
